Biblical Studies - Academic Societies

Academic Societies

Several academic associations and societies promote research in the field. The largest is the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) with around 8,500 members in more than 80 countries. It publishes many books and journals in the biblical studies, including its flagship, the Journal of Biblical Literature. SBL hosts one academic conference in North America and another international conference each year, as well as smaller regional meetings.

Famous quotes containing the words academic and/or societies:

You know lots of criticism is written by characters who are very academic and think it is a sign you are worthless if you make jokes or kid or even clown. I wouldn’t kid Our Lord if he was on the cross. But I would attempt a joke with him if I ran into him chasing the money changers out of the temple.
    Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961)

All societies on the verge of death are masculine. A society can survive with only one man; no society will survive a shortage of women.
    Germaine Greer (b. 1939)
