Bernard Kouchner - French Foreign Minister

French Foreign Minister

After the election of Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007, Kouchner was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in François Fillon's government, even though Kouchner supported Sarkozy's Socialist rival Ségolène Royal during the campaign. He has since been expelled from the Socialist Party for his acceptance of the post. He was dismissed in the November 2010 Fillon cabinet reshuffle.

Famous quotes containing the words french, foreign and/or minister:

It was not reason that besieged Troy; it was not reason that sent forth the Saracen from the desert to conquer the world; that inspired the crusades; that instituted the monastic orders; it was not reason that produced the Jesuits; above all, it was not reason that created the French Revolution. Man is only great when he acts from the passions; never irresistible but when he appeals to the imagination.
    Benjamin Disraeli (1804–1881)

She planted corn and left the rest
    to elements, convinced that God
with giant faucets regulates the rain
and saves the crops from frost or foreign wind.
    Richard Hugo (1923–1982)

Before any woman is a wife, a sister or a mother she is a human being. We ask nothing as women but everything as human beings.
Ida C. Hultin, U.S. minister and suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 4, ch. 17, by Susan B. Anthony and Ida Husted Harper (1902)
