Berkeley Hunt - History

History

The Berkeley Hunt's establishment is said to have been, in its (18th century) day, one of the largest and most important the world has ever known.

Hounds have been kept at Berkeley since the 12th century, at first to hunt the stag and the buck, and since the 18th century, to hunt the fox.

The Berkeley family still own the Berkeley's hounds and the kennels.

Fox hunting in its traditional form has been unlawful in the UK since February 2005.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

In every election in American history both parties have their clichés. The party that has the clichés that ring true wins.
    Newt Gingrich (b. 1943)

The one duty we owe to history is to rewrite it.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

There is one great fact, characteristic of this our nineteenth century, a fact which no party dares deny. On the one hand, there have started into life industrial and scientific forces which no epoch of former human history had ever suspected. On the other hand, there exist symptoms of decay, far surpassing the horrors recorded of the latter times of the Roman empire. In our days everything seems pregnant with its contrary.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)
