Australian Trade Union Reaction To The Creation of The AFPC

Australian trade unions view the AFPC as a conservative business-friendly organisation that threatens the basic rights, pay and entitlements of Australian workers. Further, they argue that the FPC will benefit business at the expense of workers. Unions mockingly call the AFPC the Australian Low Pay Commission. Unions view the IRC as independent and wish to keep it as the minimum wage setting body. ACTU's Greg Combet expressed his concern about Professor Harper's ability in an interview with Radio National's Mark Colvin. The current Minimum wage for Australia is $15.51 per hour or $589.30 per week since July 31, 2011

Famous quotes containing the words australian, trade, union, reaction and/or creation:

    Each Australian is a Ulysses.
    Christina Stead (1902–1983)

Until the end of the Middle Ages, and in many cases afterwards too, in order to obtain initiation in a trade of any sort whatever—whether that of courtier, soldier, administrator, merchant or workman—a boy did not amass the knowledge necessary to ply that trade before entering it, but threw himself into it; he then acquired the necessary knowledge.
    Philippe Ariés (20th century)

She had brought love to the union and he had brought a longing after the flesh.
    Zora Neale Hurston (1891–1960)

In a land which is fully settled, most men must accept their local environment or try to change it by political means; only the exceptionally gifted or adventurous can leave to seek his fortune elsewhere. In America, on the other hand, to move on and make a fresh start somewhere else is still the normal reaction to dissatisfaction and failure.
    —W.H. (Wystan Hugh)

Like everything which is not the involuntary result of fleeting emotion but the creation of time and will, any marriage, happy or unhappy, is infinitely more interesting than any romance, however passionate.
