Aruppukottai is a town and a municipality in Virudhunagar district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.aruppukottai's classical name is "sengattu irukkai edathuvali". Aruppukottai is about 48 km from Madurai. Its in the middle of Madurai-Tuticorin National Highways NH-45B. As Kannada Peoples from Vijayanagara Empire came To Madurai That Time the Kannada speaking Peoples inhabitanted this place, That Time it was called Aravakottai. Later on, as time passed by it has changed to "Aruppukottai". The small villages and towns surrounding Aruppukottai are famous for production of jasmine. Sri Ramana Maharishi was born in Tiruchuli near Aruppukottai town. Aruppukottai was part of king Sethupathi of Ramnad. Aruppukottai is well known for its high quality educational institutions.
