Famous quotes containing the words archbishop, high and/or school:

    The archbishop is away. The church is gray.
    He has left his robes folded in camphor
    And, dressed in black, he walks
    Among fireflies.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

    It is fatally easy for Western folk, who have discarded chastity as a value for themselves, to suppose that it can have no value for anyone else. At the same time as Californians try to re-invent “celibacy,” by which they seem to mean perverse restraint, the rest of us call societies which place a high value on chastity “backward.”
    Germaine Greer (b. 1939)

    Their school a crowd, his master solitude;
    Through Jonathan Swift’s dark grove he passed, and there
    Plucked bitter wisdom that enriched his blood.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
