Aramaic Of Jesus
It is generally agreed that Jesus and his disciples primarily spoke Aramaic, most likely a Galilean dialect clearly distinguishable from that of Jerusalem. Most of the apostles from the Galilee region also spoke Aramaic and the towns of Nazareth and Capernaum in Galilee, where Jesus lived, were primarily Aramaic-speaking communities.
Famous quotes containing the word jesus:
“Savages cling to a local god of one tribe or town. The broad ethics of Jesus were quickly narrowed to village theologies, which preach an election or favoritism.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
