Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi - Legacy and Public Image

Legacy and Public Image

Niazi was known for making audacious statements like "Dacca will fall only over my dead body". According to Pakistani author Akbar S. Ahmed, Niazi hatched a plan to "cross into India and march up the Ganges and capture Delhi and thus link up with Pakistan". Niazi called this the "Niazi corridor theory", explaining, "It was a corridor that the Quaid-e-Azam demanded and I will obtain it by force of arms." In a presentation to the central government in June 1971 he said, "I would capture Agartala and a big chunk of Assam, and develop multiple thrusts into Indian Bengal. We would cripple the economy of Calcutta by blowing up bridges and sinking boats and ships in Hooghly River and create panic amongst the civilians. One air raid on Calcutta would set a sea of humanity in motion to get out of Calcutta."

Niazi lived out his life in Lahore and died there with only few to attend his funeral. His wife predeceased him.

What is popularly called fame is nothing but an empty name and a legacy from paganism.
    Desiderius Erasmus (c. 1466–1536)

I did not find Liverpool ugly. Her stately public buildings, broad streets, public squares, and noble statues redeem her from the charge.
    M. E. W. Sherwood (1826–1903)

Who can wonder that the world is known
So well by man, since himself is one?
The same composure in his form is shewed,
And man’s the little image of the God.
    Marcus Manilius (10 B.C.–A.D. 30)
