Agencies Of The Federally Administered Tribal Areas

The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) (Pashto: وسطي قبایلي سیمې، منځنۍ پښتونخوا‎; Urdu: قبائلی علاقہ جات‎) is a semi-autonomous tribal region in the northwest of Pakistan, lying between Afghanistan's provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, Paktia, Khost and Paktika to the west and north, and the Pakistani provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the east and Balochistan to the south. The Federally Administered Tribal Areas comprise seven agencies (tribal districts) and six frontier regions. The territory is almost exclusively inhabited by Pashtun tribes, who also live in the neighboring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and eastern Afghanistan and are Muslims by faith. The territory is governed through the Frontier Crimes Regulations.

Famous quotes containing the words agencies, federally, administered, tribal and/or areas:

While it is generally agreed that the visible expressions and agencies are necessary instruments, civilization seems to depend far more fundamentally upon the moral and intellectual qualities of human beings—upon the spirit that animates mankind.
    Mary Ritter Beard (1876–1958)

If men could menstruate ... clearly, menstruation would become an enviable, boast-worthy, masculine event: Men would brag about how long and how much.... Sanitary supplies would be federally funded and free. Of course, some men would still pay for the prestige of such commercial brands as Paul Newman Tampons, Muhammed Ali’s Rope-a-Dope Pads, John Wayne Maxi Pads, and Joe Namath Jock Shields—”For Those Light Bachelor Days.”
    Gloria Steinem (b. 1934)

[F]rankly ... it was perfectly true that I had, for over a year, expressed the opinion that Indo-China should not go back to France but that it should be administered by an international trusteeship. France has had the country ... for nearly one hundred years, and the people are worse off than they were at the beginning.... France has milked it for one hundred years. The people of Indo-China are entitled to something better than that.
    Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945)

What is this conversation, now secular,
A speech not mine yet speaking for me in
The heaving jelly of my tribal air?
It rises in the throat, it climbs the tongue,
It perches there for secret tutelage....
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

The ambiguous, gray areas of authority and responsibility between parents and teachers exacerbate the distrust between them. The distrust is further complicated by the fact that it is rarely articulated, but usually remains smoldering and silent.
    Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)
