Performance
High speed and low RAM requirements were criteria of the AES selection process. Thus AES performs well on a wide variety of hardware, from 8-bit smart cards to high-performance computers.
On a Pentium Pro, AES encryption requires 18 clock cycles / byte, equivalent to a throughput of about 11 MiB/s for a 200 MHz processor. On a Pentium M 1.7 GHz throughput is about 60 MiB/s.
On Intel i5/i7 CPUs supporting AES-NI instruction set extensions throughput is about 400MiB/s per thread.

Famous quotes containing the word performance:
“When a book, any sort of book, reaches a certain intensity of artistic performance it becomes literature. That intensity may be a matter of style, situation, character, emotional tone, or idea, or half a dozen other things. It may also be a perfection of control over the movement of a story similar to the control a great pitcher has over the ball.”
—Raymond Chandler (18881959)
“So long as the source of our identity is externalvested in how others judge our performance at work, or how others judge our childrens performance, or how much money we makewe will find ourselves hopelessly flawed, forever short of the ideal.”
—Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)
“The child to be concerned about is the one who is actively unhappy, [in school].... In the long run, a childs emotional development has a far greater impact on his life than his school performance or the curriculums richness, so it is wise to do everything possible to change a situation in which a child is suffering excessively.”
—Dorothy H. Cohen (20th century)
