9/11 Commission Report
The 9/11 Commission Report mentions that Sayyaf was a mentor to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, chief manager of the "planes operation" which culminated in the quadruple hijackings of September 11, 2001. Although officially a member of the Northern Alliance, Sayyaf is said to have assisted the assassins posing as journalists that killed anti-Taliban leader Ahmad Shah Massoud by detonating a bomb hidden in their video camera. There are thus suspicions he was involved in the preparations for killing Massoud.
