1996 BPR Global GT Series Season

The 1996 BPR Global GT Series season was the third season of BPR Global GT Series. It is a series for Grand Touring style cars broken into two classes based on power and manufacturer involvement, called GT1 and GT2. It began on March 3, 1996 and ended November 3, 1996 after 11 races. After the end of the season, two promotional races were held in Brazil, in the circuits of Curitiba (December 8, 1996) and Brasília (December 16, 1996).

This was the final season of the BPR series before it came under the control of the FIA to become the FIA GT Championship in 1997. This was also the first year that the classes of competitors were trimmed to just GT1 and GT2.

Famous quotes containing the words global, series and/or season:

Ours is a brand—new world of allatonceness. “Time” has ceased, “space” has vanished. We now live in a global village ... a simultaneous happening.
    Marshall McLuhan (1911–1980)

Galileo, with an operaglass, discovered a more splendid series of celestial phenomena than anyone since.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The season developed and matured. Another year’s installment of flowers, leaves, nightingales, thrushes, finches, and such ephemeral creatures, took up their positions where only a year ago others had stood in their place when these were nothing more than germs and inorganic particles. Rays from the sunrise drew forth the buds and stretched them into long stalks, lifted up sap in noiseless streams, opened petals, and sucked out scents in invisible jets and breathings.
    Thomas Hardy (1840–1928)
