RTC Today
At privatisation, most of the facilities were taken over by commercial railway engineering companies, and it was marketed as the "rtc Business Park" renting space to a range of small consultancy firms. It has become a shadow of its former self and railway research is no longer carried out at the RTC. Research Test Hall is the final nail in its coffin. The former RTC site is also used by RVEL and RC&WS To carry out repairs to railway vehicles. A large part of the site is used as storage and an operating base by Serco and Network Rail, whose rolling stock on site forms part of Network Rail testing trains. Usual traction on these trains is either DRS class 37's (six are allocated to the RTC for the purpose) or class 31's.
