Maiellaro has cited animator Don Hertzfeldt as a major inspiration and influence. He and Dave Willis paid tribute to Hertzfeldt in the Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode "The Broodwich", with a scene animated in Hertzfeldt's signature style.
