Geography
Kirkby lies 6 miles (10 km) north-east of Liverpool and roughly within the geographic centre of Merseyside in North West England. It is 180 miles (290 km) north-west of London, 5 miles (8 km) north-west of Huyton, the borough administrative headquarters.
The River Alt flows through the extreme south west of the town, with the Kirkby Brook tributary passing through the centre.
