The term date rape is widely used but can be misleading. The perpetrator of the crime might not be dating the victim; it could be a friend, acquaintance or stranger. Commonly, date rape is referring to drug-facilitated sexual assault and/or acquaintance rape.
Sexual assault is any sexual act (e.g. kissing; grabbing; fondling; oral, anal or vaginal sex) done to someone without their consent. Drug-facilitated sexual assault is any sexual assault where alcohol and/or drugs affect the victim's ability to give informed consent.
Acquaintance rape is an assault or attempted assault usually committed by a new acquaintance involving sexual intercourse without consent.

Famous quotes containing the word date:
“A preschool child does not emerge from your toddler on a given date or birthday. He becomes a child when he ceases to be a wayward, confusing, unpredictable and often balky person-in-the- making, and becomes a comparatively cooperative, eager-and-easy-to-please real human beingat least 60 per cent of the time.”
—Penelope Leach (20th century)
