Carthage College - Mission

Mission

Carthage claims a long-standing commitment to educating the whole person by nourishing the intellectual, spiritual, emotional, social, and physical dimensions of students' lives. The College's stated mission is to offer:

  • a curriculum that challenges students to think critically and express themselves effectively
  • a campus life that encourages involvement and service
  • a community of faith that nurtures spiritual growth and develops moral responsibility
  • co-curricular activities that inspire students to test their own limits and express their individuality.

Famous quotes containing the word mission:

I cannot be a materialist—but Oh, how is it possible that a God who speaks to all hearts can let Belgravia go laughing to a vicious luxury, and Whitechapel cursing to a filthy debauchery—such suffering, such dreadful suffering—and shall the short years of Christ’s mission atone for it all?
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

I am succeeding quite well in my work and the future looks well. What special mission is God preparing me for? Cutting off all earthly ties and isolating me as it were.
    Ellen Henrietta Swallow Richards (1842–1911)

Every Age has its own peculiar faith.... Any attempt to translate into facts the mission of one Age with the machinery of another, can only end in an indefinite series of abortive efforts. Defeated by the utter want of proportion between the means and the end, such attempts might produce martyrs, but never lead to victory.
    Giuseppe Mazzini (1805–1872)
