Young Quaker - Current

Current

Young Friends General Meeting now has two representatives on Meeting for Sufferings.

Various local chapters exist, and hold regular meetings. They carry out a special project each year, based on the concerns of the members in regard to the needs around them.

Perhaps summing up its work is a statement from 1926:

'Our work is based on the thought that 'What you have inherited from your forefathers, you must acquire for yourselves to possess it'. That is to say that each generation of Young Friends by its experiments must discover for itself the truths on which the Society is built, if it is to use those truths, and to continue and enlarge the work of the Society. Hence the occasional separate meetings of younger Friends and our desire to have means of expressing corporately our own experience' (Quaker Faith & Practice, 21.04)

Famous quotes containing the word current:

I perceived that to express those impressions, to write that essential book, which is the only true one, a great writer does not, in the current meaning of the word, invent it, but, since it exists already in each one of us, interprets it. The duty and the task of a writer are those of an interpreter.
    Marcel Proust (1871–1922)

Phlebas the Phoenician, a fortnight dead,
Forgot the cry of gulls, and the deep sea swell
    And the profit and loss.
    A current under sea
Picked his bones in whispers. As he rose and fell
He passed the stages of his age and youth
    Entering the whirlpool.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

You will belong to that minority which, according to current Washington doctrine, must be protected in its affluence lest its energy and initiative be impaired. Your position will be in contrast to that of the poor, to whom money, especially if it is from public sources, is held to be deeply damaging.
    John Kenneth Galbraith (b. 1908)
