Yellow Oval Room

The Yellow Oval Room is an oval room located on the south side of the second floor in the White House, the official residence of the President of the United States. First used as a drawing room in the John Adams administration it has been used as a library, office, and family parlor. The room is entered on the northern side of the room from the Center Hall, and a door on the west side of the room has a door leading into the president's bedroom. The southwest window has a swing-sash door leading to the Truman Balcony.

Today the Yellow Oval Room is used for small receptions and for greeting heads of states immediately before a State Dinner. The room is entered from the second floor corridor on the north side of the room. Three large windows on the south side of the room face the South Lawn and The Ellipse. Double doors on the west side of the room, with flags of the United States and of the presidency on either side, lead to the president and first lady's bedrooms, private sitting room and dressing room.

Famous quotes containing the words yellow and/or room:

    a star
called Wormwood rose and flickered, shattering
bent light over the dead boiling up in the ground,
the biting yellow their corrupted lives
streaming to war, denying all our words.
    Muriel Rukeyser (1913–1980)

Mrs. Small went to the kitchen for her pocketbook
And came back to the living room with a peculiar look
    And the coffee pot.
    Pocketbook. Pot.
    Pot. Pocketbook.
    Gwendolyn Brooks (b. 1917)
