Current Software Limitations

This is a list of software limitations currently in the XBMC source code.

  • XBMC's own internal cross-platform video and audio players (DVDPlayer and PAPlayer) can not play any audio or video files that are protected/encrypted with DRM (Digital Rights Management) technologies for access control, meaning audio files purchased from online music stores as iTunes Music Store, MSN Music, Audible.com, Windows Media Player Stores, and video files protected with Windows Media DRM or DivX proprietary DRM. Other than using an 'external' third-party media-player, a workaround to this is to first remove any DRM protection/encryption from the music or video file with a third-party program before trying to play it in XBMC.
  • Without using a third-party plugin there is currently no TV-tuner support as of May 2010, although full PVR support is currently being developed by XBMC team developers.
  • XBMC does not currently support binary addons from third-party developers. Today XBMC only support addons written in python script language that are interpreted by the Python engine that XBMC is using.

Famous quotes containing the words current and/or limitations:

The current of our thoughts made as sudden bends as the river, which was continually opening new prospects to the east or south, but we are aware that rivers flow most rapidly and shallowest at these points.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

No man could bring himself to reveal his true character, and, above all, his true limitations as a citizen and a Christian, his true meannesses, his true imbecilities, to his friends, or even to his wife. Honest autobiography is therefore a contradiction in terms: the moment a man considers himself, even in petto, he tries to gild and fresco himself.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)
