WMG (formerly Warwick Manufacturing Group) - Background

Background

The Warwick Manufacturing Group was originally founded in 1980 by Kumar Bhattacharyya to support the reinvigoration of UK manufacturing through research and knowledge transfer. Bhattacharyya still acts as director of the group and was made a life peer in 2004.

In 2007, the Group rebranded with the abbreviated title of WMG (instead of Warwick Manufacturing Group) to reflect its move into a more diverse range of activities which are outside its original manufacturing roots.

WMG is based in five buildings on the University of Warwick campus:

  • International Automotive Research Centre
  • International Manufacturing Centre
  • Engineering Management Building (Westwood campus)
  • International Digital Laboratory
  • International Institute for Product and Service Innovation (completed in 2012)

Famous quotes containing the word background:

They were more than hostile. In the first place, I was a south Georgian and I was looked upon as a fiscal conservative, and the Atlanta newspapers quite erroneously, because they didn’t know anything about me or my background here in Plains, decided that I was also a racial conservative.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)

... every experience in life enriches one’s background and should teach valuable lessons.
    Mary Barnett Gilson (1877–?)
