Wisconsin State Senate - 2012 General Election

2012 General Election

The Wisconsin State Senate will revert back to a Republican majority in January 2013 for several reasons. Democrat Jim Holperin, who survived two recall attempts during his time in office, announced he would not seek re-election. Republican Assemblyman Tom Tiffany defeated Democrat Susan Sommer, 56% to 40%, flipping the seat back to Republican. Senator Jessica King, who, in the August 2011 recall elections, defeated Republican Randy Hopper, lost her own bid for a full term of her own to Republican Rick Gudex by 590 votes. The Senate will have 15 Democrats, 17 Republicans, and one empty seat due to Zipperer's resignation to become the Walker administration's deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Counsel. The seat for the 33rd Senate district will most likely be filled by Rep. Paul Farrow as he is running unopposed in the general election on December 4, 2012. This will create an 18-15 Republican majority.

Famous quotes containing the words general and/or election:

The happiest conversation is that of which nothing is distinctly remembered but a general effect of pleasing impression.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

Do you know I believe that [William Jennings] Bryan will force his nomination on the Democrats again. I believe he will either do this by advocating Prohibition, or else he will run on a Prohibition platform independent of the Democrats. But you will see that the year before the election he will organize a mammoth lecture tour and will make Prohibition the leading note of every address.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)
