William S. Nicolai - Personal Life

Personal Life

For many years Bill Nicolai was a competitive sailplane pilot. He made the 12th successful ascent of Mount Sir Sandford in the Canadian North Selkirk Mountains with Ron Zimmerman and Brian Berry, brother of Jan Berry of the United States musical group, Jan and Dean. Nicolai's athletic feats also included the first-ever attempt to ski the Ptarmigan Traverse in the North Cascades in 1977 with Steve Barnett. His attentions later turned to Ironman Triathlon competitions and long distance running and cycling.

Nicolai is author of numerous articles published in Catalog Age, now Multichannel Merchant, and other marketing journals. He is a frequent speaker at the Annual Direct Marketing Association and ACCM conferences, as well as giving Webinar courses in conjunction with Multichannel Merchant's MCM LIVE! series.

Famous quotes containing the words personal life, personal and/or life:

The dialectic between change and continuity is a painful but deeply instructive one, in personal life as in the life of a people. To “see the light” too often has meant rejecting the treasures found in darkness.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

Of the modes of persuasion furnished by the spoken word there are three kinds. The first kind depends on the personal character of the speaker; the second on putting the audience into a certain frame of mind; the third on the proof, provided by the words of the speech itself.
    Aristotle (384–323 B.C.)

My life has crept so long on a broken wing
Through cells of madness, haunts of horror and fear,
That I come to be grateful at last for a little thing.
    Alfred Tennyson (1809–1892)
