The R. William Jones Cup (also known as the Jones Cup) is an international basketball tournament held annually since 1977 in Taipei, Taiwan. It was named after Renato William Jones, a basketball promoter and one of the founders of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Like the Summer Olympics and the FIBA World Championship, it has both men's and women's version, both dominated by American teams since the beginning. It also invites professional club teams, collegiate teams, and national teams from around the world, although the participants are mainly from the Asian and the North American regions.
In 2003, due to the SARS epidemic in Asia, the tournament was cancelled but resumed the following year.

Which empties our police courts, and abolishes divorces.”

“All the average human being asks is something he can call a home; a family that is fed and warm; and now and then a little happiness; once in a long while an extravagance.”

“In poorer lands
No one touches the water of life.
It has no taste
And though it refreshes absolutely
It is a cup that must also pass
Until everybody
Gets some advantage....”
