White Noise in A Spatial Context
While it is usually applied in the context of frequency domain signals, the term white noise is also commonly applied to a noise signal in the spatial domain. In this case, it has an auto correlation which can be represented by a delta function over the relevant space dimensions. The signal is then "white" in the spatial frequency domain (this is equally true for signals in the angular frequency domain, e.g., the distribution of a signal across all angles in the night sky).

Famous quotes containing the words white, noise and/or context:
“But could a dream send up through onion fumes
Its white and violet, fight with fried potatoes
And yesterdays garbage ripening in the hall,
Flutter, or sing an aria down these rooms
Even if we were willing to let it in,”
—Gwendolyn Brooks (b. 1917)
“Let there be no noise made, my gentle friends,
Unless some dull and favorable hand
Will whisper music to my weary spirit.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“The hard truth is that what may be acceptable in elite culture may not be acceptable in mass culture, that tastes which pose only innocent ethical issues as the property of a minority become corrupting when they become more established. Taste is context, and the context has changed.”
—Susan Sontag (b. 1933)
