White Box Enterprise Linux

White Box Enterprise Linux was a free Linux distribution that was an alternative to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, primarily funded by the Beauregard Parish Library in Louisiana. White Box aimed to be 100% binary compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

This product was derived from the free software made available by Red Hat, Inc but was not produced, maintained or supported by Red Hat. Specifically, this product was forked from the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux under the terms and conditions of the free software licences under which it is distributed.

This project is no longer active; the last release was in 2007 . A distribution with the same goals, which is still actively maintained, is CentOS.

Famous quotes containing the words white, box and/or enterprise:

Midway the lake we took on board two manly-looking middle-aged men.... I talked with one of them, telling him that I had come all this distance partly to see where the white pine, the Eastern stuff of which our houses are built, grew, but that on this and a previous excursion into another part of Maine I had found it a scarce tree; and I asked him where I must look for it. With a smile, he answered that he could hardly tell me.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

All your lovely words are spoken.
Once the ivory box is broken,
Beats the golden bird no more.
    Edna St. Vincent Millay (1892–1950)

Rivers must have been the guides which conducted the footsteps of the first travelers. They are the constant lure, when they flow by our doors, to distant enterprise and adventure; and, by a natural impulse, the dwellers on their banks will at length accompany their currents to the lowlands of the globe, or explore at their invitation the interior of continents.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
