Wharton State Forest - Inside Wharton

Inside Wharton

In the park is a monument marking the location where Mexican aviation pioneer Emilio Carranza crashed while returning from a historic goodwill flight to New York City on July 12, 1928.

The forest has ten campgrounds, ranging from family camping at Atsion Recreation Area, with showers and a guarded beach, to wilderness camping that can be reached only by hiking or canoe/kayak.

Famous quotes containing the word wharton:

I am secretly afraid of animals.... I think it is because of the usness in their eyes, with the underlying not-usness which belies it, and is so tragic a reminder of the lost age when we human beings branched off and left them: left them to eternal inarticulateness and slavery. Why? their eyes seem to ask us.
    —Edith Wharton (1862–1937)

I wonder, among all the tangles of this mortal coil, which one contains tighter knots to undo, & consequently suggests more tugging, & pain, & diversified elements of misery, than the marriage tie.
    —Edith Wharton (1862–1937)
