Famous quotes containing the words west, swan and/or road:

Go on, high ship, since now, upon the shore,
The snake has left its skin upon the floor.
Key West sank downward under massive clouds
And silvers and greens spread over the sea. The moon
Is at the mast-head and the past is dead.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

The Teutons have been singing the swan song ever since they entered the ranks of history. They have always confounded truth with death.
    Henry Miller (1891–1980)

How the cold creeps as the fire dies at length
    How drifts are piled,
    Dooryard and road ungraded,
Till even the comforting barn grows far away,
And my heart owns a doubt
Whether ‘tis in us to arise with day
    And save ourselves unaided.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
