West Renfrewshire (UK Parliament Constituency) - Boundaries

Boundaries

The Redistribution of Seats Act 1885 provided that the Western division should consist of "the parishes of Inverkip, Greenock, Port Glasgow, Kilmalcolm, Erskine, Inchinnan, Houston, Kilbarchan, Lochwinnoch, Renfrew, Abbey, Neilston, Beith, and Dunlop".

From 1918 the constituency consisted of "The Lower county District, inclusive of all burghs situated therein, except the burgh of Greenock, together with the burgh of Johnstone."

In 1999 with the creation of the devolved Scottish Parliament, a Scottish Parliamentary constituency of West Renfrewshire was created with the same name and boundaries as the UK Parliament constituency.

Famous quotes containing the word boundaries:

It is the story-teller’s task to elicit sympathy and a measure of understanding for those who lie outside the boundaries of State approval.
    Graham Greene (1904–1991)

We love to overlook the boundaries which we do not wish to pass.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

We must be generously willing to leave for a time the narrow boundaries in which our individual lives are passed ... In this fresh, breezy atmosphere ... we will be surprised to find that many of our familiar old conventional truths look very queer indeed in some of the sudden side lights thrown upon them.
    Bertha Honore Potter Palmer (1849–1918)
