West Qurna (Arabic: غرب قرنة) is one of Iraq's largest oil fields, located north of Rumaila field, west of Basra. West Qurna is believed to hold 43 billion barrels (6.8×109 m3) of recoverable reserves, making it the second largest field in the world after Saudi Arabia's Ghawar oil field. The field was closed to Western firms due to years-long sanctions.
Famous quotes containing the words west and/or field:
“At Hayes General Store, west of the cemetery, hangs an old army rifle, used by a discouraged Civil War veteran to end his earthly troubles. The grocer took the rifle as payment on account.”
—Administration for the State of Con, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“They talk about a womans sphere,
As though it had a limit.
Theres not a place in earth or heaven.
Theres not a task to mankind given ...
Without a woman in it.”
—Kate Field (18381896)
