West Bridgford - Local Government

Local Government

West Bridgford was created as an urban sanitary district in 1891. It became an urban district with an elected council under the Local Government Act 1894. In 1935, the parishes of Edwalton and South Wilford were added to the urban district. This then became part of the larger borough of Rushcliffe under the Local Government Act 1972.

Famous quotes containing the words local and/or government:

Civility, which is a disposition to accommodate and oblige others, is essentially the same in every country; but good breeding, as it is called, which is the manner of exerting that disposition, is different in almost every country, and merely local; and every man of sense imitates and conforms to that local good breeding of the place which he is at.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

Democracy is not so much a form of government as a set of principles.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)
