There are sometimes accidents, also at unused fountains:
- 10 June 1981: Alfredo Rampi, Italy
- 14 October 1987: Jessica McClure, Texas
- 5 June 2006: two children in Gravina, South Italy, the father is accused of causing this incident
- 28 December 2007: Felix von Quistorp, a boy drowned in a castle's fountain in Oberbayern, Germany
- August 2011: two deaths in Magdeburg, Germany, when repairing a fountain
