Warrnambool Railway Station - Facilities

Facilities

It has wheelchair access and is used by V/Line's three return passenger trains to Melbourne - Southern Cross on weekdays and Saturdays, with two return workings on Sundays. Warrnambool is also a major connecting point for V/Line road coach services to Hamilton, Mount Gambier, Portland, Port Fairy, Ballarat, a new thrice-weekly coach to Ararat via Halls Gap and on Sundays, one remaining return working to Geelong.

There is also a five nights a week freight train conveying containers between Melbourne Freight Terminal and the West vic siding just past Warrnambool. It is operated by Patrick Corporation, a subsidiary of Asciano Limited, who took over the service in October 2008 after El Zorro lost the contract, who themselves took over after the withdrawal of Pacific National in March 2008.

The line originally continued west to Port Fairy and is now being converted into the Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail. A short branch also ran from the station to the pier. Between 1993 and 2004 the private company West Coast Railway operated passenger trains on the line. After their demise V/Line have been operating the passenger service.

On 14 July 2008 the freight shed siding at the up side of the passenger platform was booked out of use, the points abolished and the siding removed. On 24 July the line between the 270.468 km mark and Dennington was officially booked out of use.

Famous quotes containing the word facilities:

I have always found that when men have exhausted their own resources, they fall back on “the intentions of the Creator.” But their platitudes have ceased to have any influence with those women who believe they have the same facilities for communication with the Divine mind as men have.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)

Marriage is good enough for the lower classes: they have facilities for desertion that are denied to us.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
