Famous quotes containing the words war, league, peace and/or award:

One must know that war is common, justice is strife, and everything happens according to strife and necessity.
    Heraclitus (c. 535–475 B.C.)

He will deliver you from six troubles; in seven no harm shall touch you. In famine he will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword. For you shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the wild animals shall be at peace with you.
    Bible: Hebrew, Job 5:19-23.

The peace of God, which passeth all understanding.
—Bible: New Testament St. Paul, in Philippians, 4:7.

The words are also used in the Book of Common Prayer, Holy Communion (1662)

The award of a pure gold medal for poetry would flatter the recipient unduly: no poem ever attains such carat purity.
