Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
The Virtual Learning Environment, commonly abbreviated to VLE, is an online system run by the school internally. For the start of the 2012–13 school year, the new system was on the net to replace the school's previous online carrier, the portal for learning. Every comprehensive school in the Rotherham area use this system as it is run by the Metropolitan council. However, due to constant complaints about simultaneous technical issues, the school's ICT departmental teachers decided it would be a favourable idea to run their own system, and shut down the Wales High School portal, meaning it wouldn't go down due to the server being in the school rather than a few miles away. On the VLE, both students and teachers are able to access. Students can customize their own profile, which, much to the students avail, contained their timetable. Many other customizable blocks are available to enhance the learning experience. The main purpose is for pupils to access things at home to revise over, if need be, and to enrol in courses specified by their subject teacher. This contains fun quizzes on the topic, and key sheets which are downloadable in their specified format, or PDF to look at and make sure they know what they are doing in the topic, just in case they were absent for the lesson or weren't quite sure.

Famous quotes containing the words virtual, learning and/or environment:
“Neither dead nor alive, the hostage is suspended by an incalculable outcome. It is not his destiny that awaits for him, nor his own death, but anonymous chance, which can only seem to him something absolutely arbitrary.... He is in a state of radical emergency, of virtual extermination.”
—Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)
“Gold has a price, but learning is priceless.”
—Chinese proverb.
“People between twenty and forty are not sympathetic. The child has the capacity to do but it cant know. It only knows when it is no longer able to doafter forty. Between twenty and forty the will of the child to do gets stronger, more dangerous, but it has not begun to learn to know yet. Since his capacity to do is forced into channels of evil through environment and pressures, man is strong before he is moral. The worlds anguish is caused by people between twenty and forty.”
—William Faulkner (18971962)
