Mission
Viva is known for the depth of its programming, because each DJ is hand selected for the strength of their musical selections. Shows cover genres like dance music, indie rock, pop, rap and jazz.
The station was founded in June 2006. It has 60,000 unique listeners a month. Viva was created in order to give DJs, musicians, art and fashion personalities a place to showcase their favorite music.
Its slogan is "Bringing radio back on track!" and standing up for "the gays"
Contributors put together new shows for the station weekly. Viva has 57 contributors, many of them from Los Angeles and New York City. The site is currently at capacity for contributors, but submissions are welcome for future consideration. Shows are typically one hour long but may also run two hours.
Viva has a studio in Park Slope, Brooklyn for conducting live shows and interviews.

Famous quotes containing the word mission:
“... [a] girl one day flared out and told the principal the only mission opening before a girl in his school was to marry one of those candidates [for the ministry]. He said he didnt know but it was. And when at last that same girl announced her desire and intention to go to college it was received with about the same incredulity and dismay as if a brass button on one of those candidates coats had propounded a new method for squaring the circle or trisecting the arc.”
—Anna Julia Cooper (18591964)
“We can come up with a working definition of life, which is what we did for the Viking mission to Mars. We said we could think in terms of a large molecule made up of carbon compounds that can replicate, or make copies of itself, and metabolize food and energy. So thats the thought: macrocolecule, metabolism, replication.”
—Cyril Ponnamperuma (b. 1923)
“I cannot be a materialistbut Oh, how is it possible that a God who speaks to all hearts can let Belgravia go laughing to a vicious luxury, and Whitechapel cursing to a filthy debaucherysuch suffering, such dreadful sufferingand shall the short years of Christs mission atone for it all?”
