Sound File and Emulation
Sound chip emulators, usually inspired by game system emulators, developed both as standalone media players and as plugins for popular media players like Winamp. Web site communities have sprung up, and archives containing the sound data of games allow fans to hear game music on their personal computers much as it sounds in its original format. Each game system that is emulated begot a specialised format such as NSF, GBS, SID, HES, VGM, SPC, PSF, PSF2, and others.

Famous quotes containing the words sound, file and/or emulation:
“A person is far more likely to appear to have sound character because he persistently follows his temperament than because he persistently follows his principles.”
—Friedrich Nietzsche (18441900)
“I have been a soreheaded occupant of a file drawer labeled Science Fiction ... and I would like out, particularly since so many serious critics regularly mistake the drawer for a urinal.”
—Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (b. 1922)
“Our children will not survive our habits of thinking, our failures of the spirit, our wreck of the universe into which we bring new life as blithely as we do. Mostly, our children will resemble our own misery and spite and anger, because we give them no choice about it. In the name of motherhood and fatherhood and education and good manners, we threaten and suffocate and bind and ensnare and bribe and trick children into wholesale emulation of our ways.”
—June Jordan (b. 1939)
