Victorian College of The Arts Student Union - Proud

Proud was VCASU's annual acquisitive prize exhibition held for all VCASU members to participate. It had traditionally been held in the Margaret Lawrence Gallery at VCA. Beginning in 1996, Proud provided a launch pad for many of VCA's successful emerging artists, including Anastasia Klose, Van Thanh Rudd and Azlan McLennan. Previous Proud exhibitions included high profile arts industry judges such as Marcus Westbury and Patricia Piccinini.

Famous quotes containing the word proud:

Was it the proud full sail of his great verse,
Bound for the prize of all too precious you,
That did my ripe thoughts in my brain inherse,
Making their tomb the womb wherein they grew?
Was it his spirit, by spirits taught to write
Above a mortal pitch, that struck me dead?
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

One of the proud joys of the man of letters—if that man of letters is an artist—is to feel within himself the power to immortalize at will anything he chooses to immortalize. Insignificant though he may be, he is conscious of possessing a creative divinity. God creates lives; the man of imagination creates fictional lives which may make a profound and as it were more living impression on the world’s memory.
    Edmond De Goncourt (1822–1896)

    Yet how proud we are,
In daring to look down upon ourselves!
    Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806–1861)
