Venhuizen

Venhuizen (West Frisian: Fenhúze) (population: 7,812 which could be incorrect) is a town in the north-western Netherlands, in the province of North Holland and the region of West-Frisia, in the municipality of Drechterland. Venhuizen also was a municipality until 1 January 2006, when the municipality was combined with the existing municipality of Drechterland. Where was decided to call the municipality Drechterland.

On a map of the Hollands Noorderkwartier from 1288 is Venhuizen stated as Veenhusen. The name could be referring to that there were houses at or in the fen. The Dutch-reformed church dates from the 15th century. The other big church, the St. Lucaskerk (St. Lucaschurch), is from a bit special style. It's also locally called the tough church (nl: Stoere).
