Vedic Accent

The tone accent of Vedic Sanskrit, or Vedic accent for brevity, is traditionally divided by Sanskrit grammarians into three qualities, udātta "raised" (acute accent, middle tone), anudātta "not raised" (grave accent, lower tone) and svarita "sounded" (circumflex, higher tone).
