Vault RNA - Role in Multidrug Resistance

Role in Multidrug Resistance

Vault RNAs, in conjunction with the vault ribonucleoprotein complex, have long been connected with drug resistance, though the mechanisms involved have only recently been determined. Vault non-coding RNAs produce small vault RNAs (svRNAs) through a DICER mechanism which then operate in similar manner to miRNAs: an svRNA binds an argonaute protein and downregulates expression of CYP3A4, an enzyme involved in drug metabolism.

Famous quotes containing the words role in, role and/or resistance:

Always and everywhere children take an active role in the construction and acquisition of learning and understanding. To learn is a satisfying experience, but also, as the psychologist Nelson Goodman tells us, to understand is to experience desire, drama, and conquest.
    Carolyn Edwards (20th century)

Women’s battle for financial equality has barely been joined, much less won. Society still traditionally assigns to woman the role of money-handler rather than money-maker, and our assigned specialty is far more likely to be home economics than financial economics.
    Paula Nelson (b. 1945)

The aim of every political association is the preservation of the natural and imprescriptible rights of man. These rights are liberty, property, security and resistance to oppression.
—French National Assembly. Declaration of the Rights of Man (drafted and discussed August 1789, published September 1791)
