Progress

Famous quotes containing the word progress:

The progress of society is mainly ... the improvement in the condition of the workingmen of the world.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

[O]ur people are steadily increasing their spending for higher standards of living ... the slogan of progress is changing from the full dinner pail to the full garage.
    Herbert Hoover (1874–1964)

This generation inclines a little to congratulate itself on being the last of an illustrious line; and in Boston and London and Paris and Rome, thinking of its long descent, it speaks of its progress in art and science and literature with satisfaction.... It is the good Adam contemplating his own virtue.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
