Famous quotes containing the words republic of, republic, china, navy and/or career:

I have always considered it as treason against the great republic of human nature, to make any man’s virtues the means of deceiving him.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

The first requisite of a good citizen in this republic of ours is that he shall be able and willing to pull his weight.
    Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919)

The awakening of the people of China to the possibilities under free government is the most significant, if not the most momentous, event of our generation.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

People run away from the name subsidy. It is a subsidy. I am not afraid to call it so. It is paid for the purpose of giving a merchant marine to the whole country so that the trade of the whole country will be benefitted thereby, and the men running the ships will of course make a reasonable profit.... Unless we have a merchant marine, our navy if called upon for offensive or defensive work is going to be most defective.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

Like the old soldier of the ballad, I now close my military career and just fade away, an old soldier who tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty. Goodbye.
    Douglas MacArthur (1880–1964)
