User Information Bit

In telecommunication, a user information bit is a bit transferred from a source user to a telecommunications system for delivery to a destination user.

User information bits do not include the overhead bits originated by, or having their primary functional effect within, the telecommunications system.

User information bits are encoded to form channel bits.

Famous quotes containing the words user, information and/or bit:

A worker may be the hammer’s master, but the hammer still prevails. A tool knows exactly how it is meant to be handled, while the user of the tool can only have an approximate idea.
    Milan Kundera (b. 1929)

We hear a great deal of lamentation these days about writers having all taken themselves to the colleges and universities where they live decorously instead of going out and getting firsthand information about life. The fact is that anybody who has survived his childhood has enough information about life to last him the rest of his days.
    Flannery O’Connor (1925–1964)

A new mistress is like new sheets. A little bit stiff but washings to come.
    Philip Dunne (1908–1992)
