Web browser usage statistics vary significantly in different geographic regions across the globe. For example, according to StatCounter as at September 2012:

  • Internet Explorer (IE) is the most popular browser in the US, Canada, Australia, North America, Oceania, The Netherlands, Taiwan, the UK. It is particularly dominant in China and South Korea.
  • Chrome is the most popular browser in Russia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, France, Asia, Europe, South America, it is also popular in Turkey, Morocco, Vietnam, Spain, Pakistan, Italy, India, and in particular much of South America and the Philippines (where it has held a market share of ~60% for most of 2012, the highest worldwide).
  • Firefox is the most popular browser in Germany, Nigeria, Iran, Sudan, Austria, Egypt, Africa, Hungary and much of northern Africa. And is dominant in Indonesia, Kenya and Bangladesh. It is also the official browser in Antarctica.
  • Opera is the most popular browser in Belarus.
