Urjanagar

Urjanagar is situated at a distance of 10 km from Chandrapur, Maharashtra, India. It is basically a residential colony for the employees of Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station, operated by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MSPGCL).It is approximately 6 km from the main city.


Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station (CSTPS)(now Mahagenco) is the biggest Thermal Power Station of the MSPGCL and the largest in India among all the state Electricity Boards.25 % of electricity is contributed by CSTPS for Maharashtra. The power plant has a capacity of 2340 MW. At present there are 4 units of 210 MW and 3 units of 500 MW each and nowadays 2 units of 500MW is under construction.The plant being one time the biggest thermal power station in Asia has contributed to many industrial and overall development of the area. MSPGCL has also set up a megawatt solar power plant on experimental basis and coming up with two more units, providing a good opportunity of employment.


Urjanagar has a population of approx. 10,000.Two villages namely Ambora and Khair gaon are present in the colony.The colony has two high-schools providing education up to 10th std, one in Marathi medium Vidya Mandir High School and other in English, Vidya Niketan. Vidya Niketan now provides education till 12th Std. The colony also has its own government hospital. Also there are two markets in the colony, old market and new market. There are two clubs ORC and WRC for its residents which provide facilities for sports like Badminton, Table Tennis, Carrom, Lawn Tennis and grounds for Cricket and Football. The colony is divided into types namely A/B/C/D/E and F . Each type has no of buildings and each building has 4/6/12 quarter's in it. Residents of the colony Celebrate Vardhapan Din on 15th January which is the establishment day of thermal power station. The colony also has a Hanuman Temple. People of the colony celebrate various festivals like Ganeshotsav, Durga Puja at Khulerang Manch besides Vidya Mandir.
