Arts
US offers an art program for its boys that helps each student to grow and mature in their artstic pursuits. To participate in many of these programs, the freshmen at the upper school usually take Intro to the Arts, exposing them to fine arts, music, and drama. (This class is required to go into the next fine arts or drama levels, unless the student auditions for the Glee Club and is accepted.) At the lower school, all students are required to take some form of art class; different offerings are available to different grades.

Famous quotes containing the word arts:
“The arts are not just instantaneous pleasureif you dont like it, the artist is wrong. I belong to the generation which says if you dont like it, you dont understand and you ought to find out.”
—John Drummond (b. 1934)
“But here comes Generosity; givingnot to a decayed artistbut to the arts and sciences themselves.See,he builds ... whole schools and colleges for those who come after. Lord! how they will magnify his name!
One honest tear shed in private over the unfortunate, is worth them all.”
—Laurence Sterne (17131768)
“What ails it, intrinsically, is a dearth of intellectual audacity and of aesthetic passion. Running through it, and characterizing the work of almost every man and woman producing it, there is an unescapable suggestion of the old Puritan suspicion of the fine arts as suchof the doctrine that they offer fit asylum for good citizens only when some ulterior and superior purpose is carried into them.”
—H.L. (Henry Lewis)
