School of Medicine
Botswana has finally established its very first medical school after years of intensive planning to get this project underway. It has already admitted a total of 36 top students specially selected from BSc and Premed who will be pioneers of "SoM" beginning in August 2009.
The Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) professional degree is a 5 year programme. The first two years will follow an integrated Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach. The last three years are clinically structured providing the opportunity to practice in the hospital and community. Although at present a warehouse is being utilized, the Faculty of Health Science building will be completed in first half of 2010. A 450 bed academic hospital is also being constructed and is due for completion in 2013.

Famous quotes containing the words school of, school and/or medicine:
“True it is that she who escapeth safe and unpolluted from out the school of freedom, giveth more confidence of herself than she who cometh sound out of the school of severity and restraint.”
—Michel de Montaigne (15331592)
“Im not making light of prayers here, but of so-called school prayer, which bears as much resemblance to real spiritual experience as that freeze-dried astronaut food bears to a nice standing rib roast. From what I remember of praying in school, it was almost an insult to God, a rote exercise in moving your mouth while daydreaming or checking out the cutest boy in the seventh grade that was a far, far cry from soul-searching.”
—Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
“We have to ask ourselves whether medicine is to remain a humanitarian and respected profession or a new but depersonalized science in the service of prolonging life rather than diminishing human suffering.”
—Elisabeth Kübler-Ross (b. 1926)
