History
University Hill opened for classes in September 1927 at its original site, which is now University Hill Elementary School. It has been at its current location since 1955. The school is currently over capacity with almost 600 students in a building built for 325. The Vancouver School Board has proposed to renovate the nearby former NRC building into a state-of-the-art high school, and turn the current high school into a new elementary school. However, the deadline of the completion of the building continues to be delayed (from January 2012 to June 2012 and then to October 2012), annoying both students and teachers.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“We dont know when our name came into being or how some distant ancestor acquired it. We dont understand our name at all, we dont know its history and yet we bear it with exalted fidelity, we merge with it, we like it, we are ridiculously proud of it as if we had thought it up ourselves in a moment of brilliant inspiration.”
—Milan Kundera (b. 1929)
“The history of our era is the nauseating and repulsive history of the crucifixion of the procreative body for the glorification of the spirit.”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
“Those who weep for the happy periods which they encounter in history acknowledge what they want; not the alleviation but the silencing of misery.”
—Albert Camus (19131960)
