University Botanical Garden (Oslo)

The University Botanical Garden at Tøyen in Oslo is Norway's oldest botanical garden, established in 1814. It is administrated by the University of Oslo.

The University of Oslo's oldest building, the Tøyen Manor which was given as a gift in 1812, is located in the garden. The garden originally covered 75,000 square metres, but has since doubled in size. The collection includes roughly 35,000 plants of about 7500 unique species.

Famous quotes containing the words university, botanical and/or garden:

To get a man soundly saved it is not enough to put on him a pair of new breeches, to give him regular work, or even to give him a University education. These things are all outside a man, and if the inside remains unchanged you have wasted your labour. You must in some way or other graft upon the man’s nature a new nature, which has in it the element of the Divine.
    William Booth (1829–1912)

Evolution was all over my chldhood, walks abroad with an evolutionist and the world was full of evolution, biological and botanical evolution.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)

The garden flew round with the angel,
The angel flew round with the clouds,
And the clouds flew round and the clouds few round
And the clouds flew round with the clouds.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)
